The Sandman cometh with his alabastrine glowing, moonlit lamp
Through the forest, in search for one pinecone that is the seat of the soul
Harvesting its sleep-inducing melatonin
He takes the grainy brain sand, scoops it up into his pouch and treads warily toward the drawbridge
Your internal clock is ticking, sleep is beckoning
The gateway to the land of dreams is still open, the Sandman turns his sand-timer upside down, and waits
Humming to the circadian rhythms sleep, sleep, sleep
"To sleep, perchance to dream"
You are lullabied into the great unknown
At last the bridge comes down and the Sandman tiptoes across unobtrusively
Dancing rhythmically through space and time, he sprinkles the magic sand like confetti
Hither and thither, into every nook and cranny
Will you have a sweet dream or a dust devil
Twirling, spinning around and around the sand goes hap-haply
Oh, hello there you on the floor, in the corner quivering
What is that you're saying, bring me my shield?
Yes, bring me my ego
Aww, the Excessive Grandiose Opinion of yourself
The one you sold your soul for, the one that cost you your marriages, jobs, friends and real happiness?
Awww, the accolades ceremonial hug
It does not exist here, it can not help you
For such is merely a dog collar around your neck, being led around by its nose
Go fetch the ball good chap; good doggy, you earned a nice pat on the head
See the birdy doggy, track its smell so we can shoot it down; good dog, here's a treat
Come now, let's get you back in bed, I'll bring you a pleasant dream
The sleep pendulum is ticking, tick ticking into the realms of sleep once more
The dream stage is set
Through a keyhole, a ghostly earthly identity visits Scrooge
What have you to offer me, Scrooge shouts grumbly
I bring you the gift of self-worth
Bah! Humbug! How much will it cost me, Scrooge grouchily mumbles
Nary a cent, merely common sense
Here, come travel with me through your Past, Present, and Future
Scrooge stubbornly took the invisible hand of time-travel, only to realize he was thrust into a whirlwind of emotions
Stripped of his ego and vulnerable in a dreamland of unfamiliar territory, Scrooge wept, washing his plastic shield into the abyss
Realizing that the basic nature of being human was inborn
Whereas the ego was merely an expensive flamboyant masquerade
He chose the ego-driven monster nevermore, for it is a high price to pay and he was not a dog
Scrooge wanted to cultivate intellectual humility because self-worth did not have a price tag, it was an investment in the self —
Contributing to the whole of humanity for the betterment not the bitterment.
